Pakistan is ranked among the world’s most beautiful tourist destinations. Realizing the prospective increase in tourism in Pakistan, the current government is emphasizing on promoting this sector of the economy. The creation of IUB-DoST (Directorate of Sustainable Tourism) is an upshot of Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar; Vice Chancellor, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur whose focus is centered to firstly upgrade the existing residential and dining facilities present in IUB campuses to meet international standards which will provide a perfect platform for the hospitality students of IUB to practice their learning into state of the art atmosphere. Furthermore, IUB-DoST is striving to lead to present a model of hospitality services in Pakistan by accurately defining Pakistani Cuisine and create its worldwide value. It also is the foremost to focus on sustainable means to identify, preserve & promote potential tourist destinations of the country. It also targets to create substantial avenues of income creation from the fields of tourism, hospitality and food services for the local inhabitants. IUB-DoST has developed a model framework for sustainable tourism and hence designed policies and standards for all organizations in Pakistan to apply to their regional tourist destinations especially for the purpose of community based eco-tourism to create healthy livelihood for local dwellers and without any negative impact on the environment.
