Recognizing the potential for growth in this sector, the current government has prioritized its promotion.The establishment of IUB-DoST (Directorate of Sustainable Tourism) reflects the vision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.Since its inception, IUB-DoST has upgraded residential and dining facilities at IUB campuses to meet international standards. The quality of food and services have been enhanced, and now DoST is catering for 90% of all functions, conferences, seminars, and workshops held at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, in addition to its official meetings, syndicates, senates, and convocations.IUB-DoST provides a state-of-the-art environment for hospitality students at IUB to apply their theoretical knowledge in the practical settings of the university’s guest houses and faculty hostels. Additionally, it aims to set a benchmark for hospitality services in Bahawalpur by showcasing authentic Pakistani cuisine.
IUB-DoST also focuses on identifying sustainable methods, preserving, and promoting potential tourist destinations across the country. It seeks to generate significant income opportunities in tourism, hospitality, and food services for local communities. To achieve these objectives, IUB-DoST has developed a comprehensive framework for sustainable tourism, including policies and standards to guide organizations in managing regional tourist destinations, particularly through community-based eco-tourism initiatives. These efforts aim to create healthy livelihoods for local residents while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
IUB-DoST collaborates with NAVTTC (National Vocational and Technical Training Commission), which operates under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program. This initiative plays a vital role in providing training programs that enhance employability, create job opportunities, and support training partners. Over the past two years, IUB-DoST has trained more than 500 graduates free of cost, equipping them with professional skills. These graduates are now actively contributing to the labor force in the fields of tourism and hospitality.
